The Delhi youth allegedly seen slapping and kicking a woman after knocking her to the ground in a disturbing video that has gone viral on social media was arrested on Friday, police said.

The case against the youth, Rohit Tomar, son of a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector, was filed after another woman who alleged harassment and threats by him and his father, shared the video of the assault, said a police officer. He has been charged with rape, PTI reported

The woman seen targeted in a viral video was traced and convinced to file a case against him at the Uttam Nagar police station.

According to police, a woman had filed a case against Tomar at the Tilak Nagar police station on September 11, accusing him of harassing and threatening her and her family if he did not marry her. The woman, who said she was friends with Tomar but had broken up since, said he had again

approached her to resume the relationship.

When she approached his father, he also threatened her, she alleged.

Police had registered a case under preventive sections of the Criminal Procedure Code and arrested Tomar. However since the provision was bailable, he was released.

The woman subsequently again approached the police, alleging that he had molested her and was again threatening her and her family. She had also shared the video of the woman being beaten.

As the video went viral, Union home minister Rajnath Singh Friday directed Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take necessary action.

“I have taken note of a video where a youth has been seen severely beating a woman. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the phone and directed him to take necessary action in this regard,” Singh tweeted.
