Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has expressed anguish at the death of three Civil Services aspirants due to water logging in the basement of a coaching centre and that of another student due to water logging related electrocution.
In a series of posts on social media, the LG termed the incidents in the national capital as unfortunate and unacceptable. He has asked the Divisional Commissioner to submit a report, covering every aspect of the tragic incident by Tuesday. He said those responsible for the young lives lost will be brought to book. Mr Saxena said seven other citizens have reportedly died due to
electrocution in the past few days. He said these incidents point towards criminal neglect and failure of basic maintenance and administration by concerned agencies and departments.
The Delhi LG said drainage in the City and related infrastructure have apparently collapsed and alleged that it is indicative of the larger malaise of misgovernance that Delhi has been subjected to during the last decade or so. He also said that the role of coaching institutions and landlords in not ensuring basic safety of students, who pay hefty fees and rents, needs to be looked into.
