Delhi LG VK Saxena calls meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority today to deliberate on flood situation

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has called a meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority today to deliberate on the flood situation due to rise in water level in Yamuna river.

Mr.Saxena yesterday visited the inundated banks of Yamuna and took stock of the preparedness of Agencies. He said, NDRF teams have been deployed to assist in case of any eventuality. The Lieutenant Governor appealed to the people of the city to not panic and urged those stuck in flooded areas to evacuate.

Pradesh and Haryana will eventually pass on through the river, downstream and as the rains subside in upper reaches, the threat in Delhi is expected to recede soon. He also inspected the efforts of draining in Pragati Maidan Tunnel, through the adjacent MCD drain.

Meanwhile, the water level in the Yamuna river in Delhi has reached a record high to 207.95 metres breaching the 1978 record of 207.49 metres. The Delhi Police along with the NDRF are evacuating the people trapped amidst water-logging in different areas.
