Delhi Metro services resume three hours after bird snaps Blue Line cable

Delhi Metro's Blue Line faced another snag on Tuesday evening, leaving commuters stranded at various stations during the rush hour.

The busy line connects Noida and Vaishali to Dwarka. DMRC officials said the problem started when an overhead electrical (OHE) wire snapped at 4.55 pm between Indraprastha and Yamuna Bank stations after a bird hit. "An eagle hit the wire. It led to a short circuit of insulator resulting into parting of sagging of catenary wire," an official said. "The snag was reported on the down line where the metro was heading towards Noida/Vaishali."

People had a tough time even after the snag was fixed. With many commuters avoiding metro trains, there was a sudden surge in demand for app-based



cab aggregators and auto-rickshaws. This led to Ola and Uber increasing their fare.

Seema Sehgal, who had to travel from KG Marg to CR Park said, "I had to wait for around half-an-hour to get an Ola cab. When I finally saw one, it was showing Rs 320 instead of usual Rs 150 that I pay."

Finally, I took an auto-rickshaw. He too charged me Rs 280 for it, he said.

Busy stations like Rajiv Chowk, and Mandi House were choc-a-bloc with people trying to board a metro. Entry and exit points were not shut to control the swelling crowds. Several commuters started leaving to try other modes of transport. "It was crazy at Rajiv Chowk. Auto drivers immediately began overcharging outside the stations," said Rajesh Malhotra, a commuter.
