New Delhi: A 2009-batch DANIPS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service) cadre officer with the Delhi Police’s Armed Police Unit has been suspended over allegations of forging documents in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam.

A 10 June order issued by the home department of the Government of National Capital Territory says that the complainant in the case alleged that the officer – a Deputy Commissioner of Police – used educational qualifications and date of birth documents belonging to some other person with the same name.

“By virtue of which he became eligible to appear in UPSC and benefitted by age relaxations. The charge sheet has been filed against the (DCP), DANIPS-2009, by the CBI,” the order reads.

A copy of the order has been forwarded to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the DCP, the Special Secretary to Lieutenant Governor and the vigilance department.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)

had lodged a case against the DCP in 2020 when he was posted as the Additional DCP for East district, Delhi, under Sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will), and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

The federal agency had also searched the premises of the DCP. The officer has now been suspended with immediate effect and asked to report to the NCT Headquarters.

The officer was ordered not to leave the headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the competent authority, the order notes. “…during the period of his suspension, he would be entitled to a subsistence allowance at an amount equal to the leave salary which he would have drawn, had he been on leave on half average pay…. Subject to the furnishing of a certificate to the effect that he hasn’t been employed in any business, profession, or vocation for a profit/remuneration/salary,” it adds.
