Jammu: The members of the Delimitation Commission headed by Retd Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai are all set to visit Jammu & Kashmir between July 6-9 to hold consultations with the representatives of different political parties, public, UT administration including deputy commissioners of 20 districts and others with a view to gather first hand information and input concerning the ongoing process of delimitation as mandated under the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra is expected to accompany the Chairman of the commission during the four day long visit to
J&K.
The decision to visit union territory was taken after the panel held a meeting at the Election Commission office in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Earlier, on June 23, the Election Commission had conducted virtual discussions with its representatives in Jammu and Kashmir and deputy commissioners regarding the delimitation of the 90 Assembly constituencies in the Union Territory.
During the all-party meet in New Delhi the centre had made it clear to the leaders from Jammu & Kashmir that it was committed to hold Assembly polls after completing the Delimitation exercise.
