In Jammu and Kashmir, the government has directed both Divisional Commissioners and all 20 Deputy Commissioners to ensure the demarcation of the land of temples in their respective jurisdiction and the removal of encroachments. Detailed status of all the historic temples will be collected and hosted on the website of the Department of Culture.

The J&K Chief Secretary recently held deliberations on the restoration of temples in the Union Territory in light of an order passed by the High Court of J&K and Ladakh. Following the order of the High Court,

the petitioner submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary followed by a reminder seeking the constitution of a committee to look after the temples and demarcation of the land of temples etc.

The Chief Secretary directed the Department of Culture to coordinate with both Divisional Commissioners to collect data from all the Deputy Commissioners on the status of temples along with land and after compilation of data, the same should be hosted on the website of the Department of Culture.
