An Orthopedic doctor of Dhule Civil hospital in Maharashtra, was thrashed by his patient’s relatives on Tuesday after a quarrel over alleged medical negligence. Doctors have now demanded strict security in hospital premises with rising incidents of doctor-patient friction.
The doctor had apparently advised the relatives of the patient to shift the latter to another facility as the patient had been brought in with injury to his head and there was no neurosurgeon in the hospital.
The
doctor was allegedly beaten with rods by about 20 relatives of the patient. The doctor has suffered damage to vision in one eye and is admitted in the ICU for treatment of other injuries.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has decided that they will protest by wearing black ribbons to work on Tuesday and also conduct candle light marches.
"Nine of the suspects from the incident have been identified and arrested. Three FIRs have been lodged" explains SP, Dhule.
