The Congress party on Saturday appointed senior leader K C Venugopal as the general secretary in charge of Karnataka.
Following Digvijaya Singh's handling of the Congress in Goa and Manipur after the assembly elections, party cadres had demanded that Digvijaya Singh be removed as Karnataka and Goa in charge. Following the growing dissent against Digvijaya Singh in the Karnataka unit, the senior leadership of the Congress has brought in MP Venugopal.
The appointment comes at a time when Karnataka chief minister is on an international tour to UAE. K C Venugopal, a Congress MP from Alappuzha
constituency has been a minister of state for Civil Aviation in the UPA Government. The new appointment has come as a relief to members of the Congress is Karnataka who have been vehemently opposing Digvijaya Singh. Voices of dissent against Singh were loud and clear even as recently as April when he had visited Bengaluru.
An ecstatic Congress worker said that this was the first step towards consolidating the party ahead of the assembly polls. 'Politicians from Kerala are different and their working style is the need of the hour for us. They are disciplined and understand the ground reality,' he said.
