DMK president M Karunanidhi’s health is “extremely critical and unstable”, said Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday.
“There has been significant decline in the clinical of Kalaignar, Dr M Karunanidhi, over the last few hours. Despite maximum medical support, his vital organ functions continue to deteriorate,” said the hospital in a bulletin.
Thousands of police officials have been deployed in Chennai and superintendents of police in all districts have been asked to keep forces ready to maintain peace. Karunanidhi’s
younger son and political heir MK Stalin his elder son MK Alagiri and daughter Kanimozhi met Tamil Nadu chief minister E Palaniswami at his residence on Tuesday afternoon. There are 6,500 police officials deployed in Chennai now.
Hundreds of supporters of Karunanidhi, 94, are gathered outside the Kauvery Hospital, which on Monday announced that the former chief minister’s health has declined.
Karunanidhi was shifted to the hospital on July 28 after being treated at his home in Chennai’s Gopalapuram for fever and urinary tract infection.
