In Tamil Nadu, Opposition DMK will hold its Executive Committee meeting at its headquarters in Chennai today. Working President of the party MK Stalin told reporters that the meeting's agenda is to condole the death of party President M. Karunanidhi.
However, Stalin's elder brother MK Alagiri, who was expelled from DMK in 2014 for indulging in anti-party activities, yesterday said, the meeting has been convened to elevate Stalin as Party President. Alagiri also claimed that sincere followers of his father are supporting him.
Meanwhile, the ruling AIADMK has
announced that it will hold its Executive Committee meeting on Monday next week. Party Co-ordinator O Panneerselvam and Joint Co-ordinator and Chief Minister EK Palaniswami said in a statement that the meeting will be held under the leadership of party praesidium chairman E Madhusudhanan.
The meeting will be the second after the factions, led by the two leaders, merged last year. The previous meeting, held along with the General Council in September, had then sacked its jailed leader VK Sasikala as interim General Secretary.
