Ahmedabad: At a time when Gujarat is soaked in Navratri fever, medicos and staff of a public hospital here took their revelry a bit too far when they performed garba inside the intensive care unit (ICU).
More shocking was that the staff at Sola Civil Hospital, located on the posh S G Highway, erupted into an impromptu dance soon after state Health and Finance Minister Nitin Patel left after inaugurating a new dialysis centre on Monday afternoon.
The incident came to light on Tuesday after a video clip of the hospital staff performing garba accompanied by loud music went viral on social media and was shown on local
television channels. The video showed young doctors, many in white coats, nurses and ward boys dancing as they went about taking “rounds” of the ICU with their footwear on, even as patients and their kin watched speechlessly.
The hospital management, however, seemed unaware of the celebration. Medical superintendent H K Bhavsar said no one had taken permission to perform garba inside the ICU, which is generally out of bounds, even for patients’ relatives.
He ordered the hospital staff to stop their festivities and served notices to 40 employees seeking an explanation.
