A Dornier aircraft from the Indian Navy Air Squadron based in Kochi successfully carried out the maiden night landing at Agatti airfield in Lakshadweep islands on Thursday.
Due to the short runway length and the limited airfield services available at the Airport, the operations of both civil and military aircraft had been
limited to day time operations.
The Navy, in a press communique said the successful night landing would pave way for future operations of Dornier aircraft from Agatti during night, which will boost its efforts towards round the clock maritime surveillance and support to the islands.
