New Delhi: A day after his son's party forged a post-poll alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party to form the next government in Haryana, Ajay Chautala was on Saturday granted a 14-day furlough. Ajay Chautala is in Tihar Jail after conviction in a teacher recruitment scam along with his father and four-time Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala.
Ajay Chautala will be leaving Tihar jail by tomorrow.
Notably, the Jannayak Janata Party, the party founded by Ajay Chautala's son Dushyant in 2018, has emerged as a key player in the next government formation by bagging 10 seats in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. With 40 seats, the BJP had fallen short of six seats from the majority mark.
As part of the deal, the chief minister will be from the BJP and deputy chief
minister's post will go to the JJP. Notably, Dushyant had visited his father in Tihar Jail before reaching the arrangement with the BJP last evening,
Earlier, there were whispers that the JJP is pondering over naming Ajay Chautala's wife and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala's mother - Naina Chautala for the post of deputy chief minister in the state. But out-going CM ML Khattar spoke to media persons after concluding his meeting with the Haryana Governor and conveyed that when the swearing-in ceremony takes place tomorrow (26 October, Sunday), he will resume as the chief minister and that Dushyant Chautala will be the deputy chief minister.
Naina won the Badhra Assembly seat after trouncing Congress candidate Ranbir Singh Mahendra with a margin of 13,704 votes in the October 21 Haryana Assembly Elections.
