The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Abdulla Shahid met External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar today on the second day of his two-day visit to India. During the meeting, both the foreign ministers discussed bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest. Maldivian Foreign Minister Mr. Shahid also participated in the Raisina Dialogue yesterday in its virtual sessions on "Financing for Sun” and "Global public health after the Pandemic”.
While hailing India's effort to provide vaccines to the world, he said that India is an example of how
multilateralism and the idea of a ‘global village’ should function.
Speaking further in the session Mr. Shahid mentioned that the pandemic has taught us the first and foremost lesson of the importance of multilateralism.
Maldives is India’s key maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean Region and occupies a central and special place in the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘SAGAR’ - Security and Growth for All in the Region. Mr. Shahid’s visit is expected to lend further momentum to the close bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
