Election Commission, EC, has disqualified former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda from contesting polls for three years for failing to properly file election expenses. The EC's order, under the Representation of People Act, came into effect yesterday. The matter is related to 2009 Lok Sabha elections when Mr. Koda successfully contested the election from Singhbhum in Jharkhand. He did not submit the details of election expenditures in a proper manner.

cognizance of media reports, the Commission issued notices to the leader and also referred the matter to Income Tax Department to probe into the expenses. In its report, Mr. Koda had shown an expenditure of around 19 lakh rupees in an improper manner. Later, Income Tax Department in its report said that the former Chief Minister had submitted false declaration to the District Election Officer, Chaibasa as he had spent over nine crore rupees during the Lok Sabha polls.
