The Election Commission has rejected the allegations related to Lok Sabha elections schedule clashing with the holy month of Ramadan.
The Commission said polls are conducted during Ramadan as a full month cannot be excluded.
It also said that the date of the main festival and Fridays have been avoided for voting days.
Earlier, Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party had raised questions about holding elections during the Ramadan. Some phases of Lok Sabha elections will fall during
the Ramadan month which will begin in May.
Meanwhile, BJP criticised the opposition parties for giving a communal angle to the Lok Sabha poll dates.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Monday, senior party leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said during elections, the festival of Holi and Navratra will also take place.
Responding to Congress' allegations of weakening the institutions like the EC, Mr Prasad said, it is the Congress party which has weakened the institutions.
