Election Commission of India (ECI) have started the special summary revision of electoral rolls with reference to the 1st of January 2024 (SSR2024) across the country except five poll-bound states. The ECI has started the revision of electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with the objective of preparing error-free electoral rolls with a special focus on the inclusion of the youth. Youngsters, who would have completed 18 years by 1st Jan 2024 can apply to enroll themselves in the electoral rolls.
As per the latest press release regarding the SSR2024, the last date for filing claims and objections is the 9th of December this year. Disposal of claims and objections will be done by the commission by the 26th of December while the final publication of electoral
rolls will be on the 5th of January next year. In Nagaland, the publication of electoral rolls will be done on 10 January 2024.
This revision of electoral rolls, SSR2024, is considered to be important considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, while appointing actor Rajkummar Rao as the National Icon yesterday, the ECI launched a promotional video and poster for the ongoing Special Summary Revision for updating the Electoral Rolls.
On the occasion, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar appealed to influencers from all walks of life to promote the value of vote to push up voter turnout in the elections.
