Pune: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday conducted multiple searches across at least seven locations in Pune in connection with a money laundering case related to the sale of a Waqf Board property.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai last evening, Maharashtra’s Minorities Affairs Minister and NCP Chief Spokesman Nawab Malik said that the raids were not on Waqf Board offices. He added that the raids were being conducted in relation to certain financial irregularities by one of the endowment trusts registered under the Waqf Board.
Mr. Malik said that the Minorities Affairs Ministry has been
pursuing a transparent approach since the last two years, by digitizing all records and filling up of vacant posts, including the appointment of a full-time CEO, to ensure unhindered working of Waqf Boards. He added that at least seven FIRs have been lodged in recent times against various trusts and a probe is ongoing.
Claiming that such raids by Central agencies will not lower his morale, Mr. Malik said, his campaign against injustice will continue. He added that the State Government is ready to provide details of all the trusts registered under Waqf Board so that the ED can probe them.
