AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday stirred a hornet’s nest, saying that people should have more children to reduce dependency on robots.

He said many educated couples were not interested in having babies considering as burden the task of giving birth and raising them.Mr Naidu said that he earlier used to encourage family planning, but was now advising people to have more children as otherwise a day might come when we would have to get things done by robots.

“I used to advocate family planning. But now I am asking people to have more kids, so that our dependency on robots will decrease,” Mr Naidu said.

“In the present generation, couples prefer less number of children as they consider more will be a burden. This is particularly evident among educated couples,” he said.

Slamming his

statement,YSRC MLA R.K. Roja said that Mr Naidu had to answer first why he had stopped with Lokesh, and Lokesh with Devansh.

Congress leader Sunkara Padmasri said she was unaware of Mr Naidu’s exact intention, but he might have made those comments out of resentment of having a son like Lokesh who is immature and incapable of running the show of politics.

Ms Padmasri wondered how Mr Naidu could make such comments when there are industries and employment opportunities in the state as well as development. “How will he provide quality education and opportunities to the so-called manpower in the future,” she asked.

Reminding Mr Naidu that he would be in power till 2019, Ms Padmasri said that before making any such statements, one should be in a position to provide necessary facilities for their wellbeing.
