Elderly couple beg for money to bribe official for land documents in Warangal

An elderly couple found begging with placards on their neck saying that they need money to give bribe a tahsildar who demanded Rs 1 lakh from them for giving passbooks to their land in Jayashankar Bhupalapally district.

Lakshmi and Basavaiah who stays in Azamnagar in the district hold 9 acres of land with having survey number 622/52. The couple alleged that the tahsildar is trying to register the land on the name of Kanugandi Komaraiah who has 1.37 acres of land in the same survey number. Though the couple attempted suicide before the revenue official refused to



look into the matter.

"The Tahsildar kept on pending to issue the passbooks citing different reasons. We also offered Rs 50,000 for him, but the officer wants more Rs 1 lakh," said Basavaiah. He also added that they were begging to pay the money to tahsildar for their land passbooks.

After the pictures of the couple went viral on social media, the district collector Vasam Venkateshwarlu intervened into the matter and directed RDO Venkata Chary to issue passbooks immediately. The couple were handed over passbooks by the RDO.
