Elections for seven thousand seven hundred and fifty one gram panchayats, spread across 34 districts of Maharashtra will be held on 18th December. Announcing the election schedule in a statement, State Election Commissioner, UPS Madan has said that  besides the few newly formed gram panchayats, the list include the ones whose tenure is ending between October and December 2022. With this announcement, the model code of conduct has come into force in these gram panchayats.

As per the schedule announced, the respective tehsildars will issue the notification for election on 18th November. Nomination can be filed



between  28th November and 2nd December while the scrutiny will be held on 5th. The last date to withdraw nominations is 7th December, post which the state election commission will publish the final list of candidates along with their allotted election symbol. With elections due on 18th, counting of votes will take place on 20th December.

At 704, Beed district has the highest number of gram panchayats that will be going to vote while Gadchiroli, at 27, has the least number of gram panchayats that will elect their new sarpanch through the direct election method.
