In Punjab, senior farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal ended his fast at Fatehgarh Sahib yesterday. He announced that he would end his fast but would continue leading the farmers’ movement with renewed strength. He was on a fast since November 2024 to get farmers’ demands met, including a legal guarantee on MSP.

On Saturday, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chauhan, in a social media post, had appealed to Dallewal to end his fast.

He

had also said that the talks between the central government representatives and the farmer organisations regarding their demands are on. The minister had said that they would meet as scheduled, on May 4th.

Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Ravneet Singh Bittu had also appealed to the farmer leader to end his fast, as his life is precious for the people of Punjab and for the struggle of farmers and farm labourers.
