First done during the 'Janata Curfew' to thank those at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus, thali-banging was witnessed on Sunday also. But this time, utensils were clanged during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann ki Baat radio programme by farmers as part of their protest against the Centre's farm laws.
PM Modi on Sunday addressed the last Mann ki Baat of this year and agitating farmers at the Singhu (Delhi-Haryana) and Ghazipur (Delhi-UP) borders banged utensils during the radio programme.
Last week, several farmer leaders had appealed to people in the country to bang utensils to drown out PM Modi's monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat.
Addressing a press conference, leader of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Jagjit Singh Dalewala had appealed to the entire country to bang utensils on during PM Modi's Mann ki Baat radio programme, the same way the prime minister had asked everyone to bang utensils for coronavirus.
The idea of banging plates and clapping
was originally floated PM Modi earlier this year, when the Covid-19 outbreak was in its initial stage in the country, to felicitate the frontline workers battling the virus. PM Modi had appealed to the entire country to clap, bang plates during the 'Janata Curfew' to support the frontline workers.
On Sunday, agitating farmers camping along Delhi borders were seen marching, while banging utensils and shouting slogans against PM Modi and the Central government.
In his Mann ki Baat address also, PM Modi referred to the thali-banging activity that the entire country did to thank those at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19.
Citing letters written to him by the people, PM Modi said that in most letters people commended India's capabilities and the collective strength of the people of the country.
PM Modi added that people have also sent in reminiscences of the experimental 'Janta Curfew', when the country felicitated Covid warrior unitedly with "Thali-taali".
