Today is the last day for filing of nominations for 16th of next month's single-phase Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala. Scrutiny will be held tomorrow, while candidates can withdraw their nominations till Monday. Tamil Nadu Assembly has 234 members, Puducherry - 30, and Kerala - 140. Counting of votes in the three states along with West Bengal and Assam will be taken up on the 19th of next month.
In Tamil Nadu, over 3,800 candidates have, so far, filed their nominations. Campaigning is in full swing
throughout the state. Unmindful of the sweltering heat party cadres and leaders have been criss crossing their constituencies for canvassing either through public meetings, door to door campaigns or by conducting rallies. The race for winning over is on at full pace in the multi cornered contest.
In Kerala, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chenithala and former Union Minister and BJP leader O. Rajagopal are expected to file their nominations today. 916 nominations have, so far, filed their nominations.
