In Uttar Pradesh, after the scrutiny of the papers filed in the
1st phase of assembly polls, 219 candidatures were rejected out of 1151 filed
leaving a total of 932 candidates in fray for 73 seats. From NOIDA seat,
highest 17 candidatures were rejected leaving behind only 17 in the fight which
resulted mass protest in Gautam Budh Nagar collectorate yesterday.
Several candidates leveled charges of biased treatment on district administration
which was refuted by authorities. Agra South is the seat from where the highest
number of candidates 29 remain in the fray after four candidatures were
rejected. Least number of
candidates from any constituency in this phase is
seven and this figure has emerged for six constituencies- Hastinapur, Loni,
Secunderabad, Bulandshahar, Dibai and Iglas.
A total of 404 candidates had filed their nominations till yesterday for
the 67 seats on stake in second phase for which nomination process will continue
till tomorrow. Whereas with 31st January as last date of filing nomination, a
total of 53 candidates filed their papers till 25th January for the 69 seats of
third phase.
