Kolkata: The first meeting of the working group on G20 Financial Inclusion Indicators (GPFI) will begin in Kolkata today.
All the member countries, invited countries, and invited organisations like World Bank, IMF, and the United Nations will take part in the meeting. The main session will discuss Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion.
Chanchal Sarkar, advisor to the Financial Affairs department of the Finance ministry told a press conference that the meeting will begin with a discussion on 'Unlocking Digital Public Infrastructure for Financial Inclusion'. There will be two-panel discussions. Twelve internationally famed financial experts will participate in the
discussion.
Besides this, an exhibition on innovative financial products is being organized. The main plenary meeting will be held on the second day. Apart from this, a special seminar has been organised to increase financial literacy among students. Around two thousand students from different educational institutions will participate in the seminar.
Mr. Sarkar said emphasis would be laid on developing the infrastructure of financial transactions through digital means, connecting more people through this means, reducing the remittance fee for money sent abroad, and increasing the financial aid to support entrepreneurs of medium and small industries.
