Government yesterday said that Fish Cryobanks will be set up in different parts of the country. This will facilitate all time availability of fish sperms of desired species to fish farmers.
Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Giriraj Singh announced this on the occasion of National Fish Farmers Day yesterday. He said, this will be the first time in the world when Fish Cryobank will be established.
Mr Singh said, this will bring a revolutionary change in the fisheries sector in the country for enhancing fish production and
productivity. National Fisheries Development Board in collaboration with the National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources will take up the work to establish Fish Cryobanks.
The Minister said, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana had been launched with highest ever investment of over 20 thousand crore rupees during next five years. This scheme will address the critical gaps in fish production and productivity, quality, modernisation and establishing a robust fisheries management framework and fishermen’s welfare.
