In Bihar, a flood alert has been sounded in Supaul, Saharsa, and Madhepura districts following the release of more than 4.14 lakh cusecs water from the Birpur Kosi barrage on the Indo-Nepal border.

The flood control unit bulletin says all 56 gates of the barrage have been opened due to the enormous pressure of the rising water level. According to the late-night bulletin at 10:00

PM, the discharge from the barrage was at maximum level.

Incessant rainfall in the catchment areas of Kosi in the neighbouring country Nepal has led to the rise of the water level of the river. In the past 24 hours, several districts including Madhepura, Madhubani, Purnea, Araria, Vaishali, and East Champaran have witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall.
