Flood alert issues in Jorhat and Barpeta districts of Assam

In Assam, State disaster management authority has issued a flood alert at five revenue circles in Jorhat and Barpeta districts for the next 24 hours. The alert has been sounded at Majuli river island in Jorhat and four other revenue circles in Barpeta.

Several rivers including Brahmaputra are in spate at several places. Over 200 villages have been submerged in floods in six



districts. Several incidents of landsliding have been reported in Guwahati. One person was killed and houses damaged in Guwahati due to landslides.

"The Brahmaputra and its a few tributaries are flowing above the danger level. However, no new areas have been inundated in Jorhat district during last 24 hours. Over 200 villages have been submerged in six districts in current floods.
