In Uttar Pradesh, low lying areas close to major rivers in the state are facing fury of flood. The situation emerged after heavy rains in the catchment areas and water released into rivers from various dams and barrages.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited flood affected areas in Ballia district and instructed officials to provide every possible assistance to flood victims. Almost all Major rivers in state are in spate and flowing above or close to the danger mark. Ganga, Yamuna, Betwa, Chambal, Ghaghara and Sharda rivers are wreaking havoc in low lying areas of various districts including Hamirpur, Banda, Ballia, Auraiya, Prayag raj,
Faizabad, Barabanki, Gonda, varanasi and agara.
In Varanasi almost all major Ghats are inundated in water and venue of famous Ganga Arti has been shifted. After release of more than 6 lakh cusec water from Kota bairaj in Chambal, steamer services have been started by administration in the areas close to river in Agra as many villages are marooned due to flood water. 17 people lost their life in state in last 24 hours in lightening and other rain related accidents.
Met department has predicted heavy rain in central and eastern part of state in next 24 hours.
