Flood situation has deteriorated in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as Ganga and its tributaries continued to swell and flow above danger level in many cities in the two states. More than 24 lakh people are reeling under the fury of flood in 12 districts of Bihar.
Principal Secretary of State Disaster Management Department Vyasji said more than 1.50 lakh people have been evacuated mostly from riverine areas as Ganga and its tributaries - Sone and Punpun- continued to engulf fresh areas. He said, state government has opened 162 relief centres where more than 1.10 lakh people are being provided food and shelter. At least 8 people were feared drowned in
Punpun river when a boat ferrying them capsized near Kalen village under Khudwa police station area of Aurangabad district yesterday.
There is no let up flood situation as Major rivers like Ganga and Yamuna continued to be in spate in Varanasi, Allahabad, Gazipur and Ballia districts of Uttar Pradesh. Ganga, Yamuna and their tributaries continued to swell in eastern UP following the release of waters from Nepal and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh and Uttrakhand. NDRF DIG Randeep Rana told that 19 teams have been deployed in worst affected districts of the state so far. He said, five teams have been deployed in Ballia district alone.
