In Assam, flood waters have submerged 500 villages in 7 districts. Several rivers including the Brahmaputra are maintaining a rising trend for a consecutive fifth day. Flood waters have inundated nearly 8 thousand hectares of crop land. 

Two lakh 74 thousand people have been affected in current surge of water at 24 revenue circles. District administrations are keeping a close eye on the



situation. Breach in river embankments resulted in submerged of new areas in Upper Assam.Flood water also damaged roads, culverts and bridges leading to disruption of road communication at many areas. 

Over 14 thousand people are taking shelter at 66 relief camps in Cachar and Karimganj districts. A six year old child reportedly swept away at Lakhimpur district last night.
