This assertion was made by Finance Minister Etela Rajender in the Telangana State Assembly on Wednesday while replying to as question on the spiraling prices of essential commodities. Striking a warning to those indulging in black-marketing of food grains, he said anyone found committing such heinous crime would be dealt with firmly and even sent to jail.
The Finance Minister explained
various steps taken by the government to check price and said that when
compared with the prices in the past, the situation was far better now which
was evident from the fact that the price of rice remained static in the
market.
The Government was also planning to take steps to increase production which go
a long way in checking price rise.
Rajender further said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao was constantly reviewing the price situation and had in fact conducted as many as 12 review meetings with the concerned officials and suggested various measures to control prices of food grains. As a matter of fact the government on the advice of the CM had taken steps to supply onions at subsidized rates at a time when the prices skyrocketed, he added.
To substantiate the sincerity of the government in ensuring check on price rise of food grains and also punish those indulging in black-market, the Finance Minister said criminal cases were booked against 2500 persons in this regard.
