Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address a press conference at 4pm to share details of the Rs 20 lakh crore economic relief package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to soften the devastating impact of coronavirus and the lockdown on the economy.
PM Modi declared the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan' – a monetary alleviation bundle worth Rs 20 lakh crore for an 'independent' India. He said that the bundle, evaluated to associate with 10 percent of the GDP, is expected to help battle the COVID-19
pandemic.
After PM Modi’s speech yesterday, Sitharaman took to Twiitter and said, “Indian economy has acquired strength in its various dimensions. Now, we can confidently engage with the world. We aim at overall transformation and not incremental changes. We shall convert the pandemic challenge into an opportunity. #AatmanirbharBharat will integrate not isolate.”
Following the press conference by Sitharaman, Former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram will address the press at 5:30 pm the same day.
