Telangana Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Sunday said the foundation stone for Horticulture University would be laid in Medak district on January 7.
Speaking to media persons here, Pocharam said the foundation laying ceremony would be attended by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and other dignitaries.
He said the university would be established at a cost of Rs 1,831 crore which included the cost of



construction and other amenities. He said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 31 crore for the university while agreeing to release another Rs 200 crore.
Pocharam further said the State government was taking several steps to promote agriculture sector. Besides waiving off crop loans, farmers were being provided seeds and fertilizers at subsidised cost. They are also being given input subsidy. He said Rs 1,000 crore had been allocated in the annual budget for drip irrigation
