Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government is committed that the country sets global benchmarks for innovation, sustainability and safety in the food sector. In a video message on the first day of the World Food India 2024 organized in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said, India has a vibrant and diverse food culture, and the farmers are backbone of country’s food ecosystem. He said, the government is supporting the farmers with innovative policies and focused implementation.
Highlighting the importance of progressive agricultural practices, strong administrative frameworks and cutting-edge technologies, Mr Modi said, the government has initiated wide-ranging reforms to transform the food processing sector. He said, the government is creating a strong ecosystem of modern infrastructure, and robust supply chains generating employment opportunities in the country.
The Prime Minister pointed towards 100 percent FDI in food processing sector, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana, formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises, and Production Linked Incentive scheme for food processing industries. The Prime Minister said, the government is focusing on empowering small enterprises so that they become an integral part of the global value chain.
On the participation of several nations in the World Food India 2024, the Prime Minister said, this is an ideal platform to work with the world. He
expressed hope that extensive discussion will be held on wide range of issues such as food safety, quality standards and best practices. He also expressed hope that important topics such as food irradiation to enhance food safety and reduce food wastage, as well as the circular economy will be showcased during the World Food India 2024.
On the inaugural day of World Food India, the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi said, it is a commendable initiative to recognize the potential of the Food and Processing sector. Mr Joshi stressed on the need to increase quality and branding of the processing product. He expressed hope that the country will achieve newer heights in the food and processing sector in the coming years.
Speaking on occasion, Food processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan said the food and processing sector is playing an important role in empowering the farmers. He said, the sector has a huge contribution in boosting the country’s economy and creating jobs. The Minister said, World Food India has been organised with an aim to take the food processing industry sector on a global stage.
Four day long World Food India 2024 yesterday began at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Over 90 countries, 26 Indian States and Union Territories, and 18 Central Ministries and allied government bodies are participating in this mega event.
