The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has called off its over 100-day old shutdown in Darjeeling hills of West Bengal.

GJM, which was spearheading the agitation for a separate state of Gorkhaland, said the decision was taken after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh made an appeal to withdraw the strike.

GJM Chief Bimal Gurung met senior leaders of the party and later, in an audio message, announced

to suspend the shutdown from today for an indefinite period.Mr Singh had on Tuesday appealed to GJM to withdraw the strike and asked the Union Home Secretary to convene an official-level meeting to discuss all related issues.

On Monday, with normalcy returning to the hills, the administration had decided to lift the restrictions on use of internet services, which were imposed on 18th June.
