New Delhi: The Government has called the Global Hunger Index report flawed and non-representative of the true picture of hunger in the country.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha yesterday, the Minister of Women and Child Development Smriti Irani said that the Global Hunger Index’s report should not be taken at face value. She added that out of its four indicators, only one indicator- undernourishment, is directly related
to hunger.
She also said, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare conducts National Family Health Survey (NFHS) periodically to capture data on nutritional indicators in children.
Ms. Irani informed the House that as per the recent National Family Health Survey-5, the nutritional indicators for children under the age of five years have improved as compared to NFHS-4.
