The  Election Commission of India has announced lifting of Model Code of Conduct with immediate effect following the culmination of Assembly Elections in five States.

These States are Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The Commission said as the results of Assembly polls in these States and



bye-election for one Assembly Constituency in Assam have been declared, the Model Code of Conduct has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect except in the districts of Uttar Pradesh where it is in force due to biennial election to Local Authorities' constituencies of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
