Goa is celebrating its 56th Liberation Day today. The state was liberated on this day in 1961 from Portuguese control after almost 450 years of colonial rule. Several programmes and events have been organised to mark the occasion. The main programme will be organised at the Sports Authority of Goa Ground, Campal in state capital Panaji. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will unfurl the national flag and take a salute at the Goa Liberation Day celebrations in Panaji. He is
scheduled to review a parade, which will be followed by a march past and mass physical training drills by school children.
The chief minister will also present awards for meritorious service provided by government employees and voluntary organisations, among others, and address citizens. Several other programmes have been planned to celebrate the Goa Liberation Day at Margao in South Goa and at the taluka level.
