The government has given approval to proposals worth 1,45,000 crore rupees to enhance the country’s defence preparedness. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved 10 capital acquisition proposals. The Council gave nod to procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles, Air Defence Fire Control Radars, Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol and Offshore Patrol Vessels.
Future Ready Combat Vehicles will modernise the tank fleet of the Indian Army to effectively deal with the emerging threats in
varied terrain. It is designed to be in service for the next 35 to 45 years equipped with next-generation operational capabilities and automation.
Air Defence Fire Control Radars is able to detect and track aerial targets and provide firing solutions. The procurement of Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels will enhance the capability of the Indian Coast Guard to carry out surveillance, patrolling, search, rescue, and disaster relief operations.
