Government will
digitally connect all Post Offices in rural areas by March 2017. In a written
reply to the Rajya Sabha, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad
said that Government has approved the Department of Posts' IT Modernisation
Project with the objective of modernisation, digitisation and networking of
about 1,55,000 Post Offices.

the Rural Information and Communication Technology project is in its
implementation phase and the objective of this project is to digitise all the
rural Post Offices through a hand-held computing device, connecting them with
the help of SIM card based network.
