The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a notification amending the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, to streamline the local cable operator registration process. The registrations of local cable operators (LCO) will be conducted entirely online.
The ministry said the registration certificates will be issued in real-time upon successful verification of applicant details. The validity of LCO registration has also increased
to a period of five years throughout the territory of the country.
Earlier, the local cable operator registration process was carried out at the local head post office in offline mode. Under the amended rules, the processing fee for registration or renewal is five thousand rupees. The application for renewal of registration shall be made at least 90 days before the expiry of the registration.
