The government yesterday said 1,253 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 653 Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) are presently functional across the country. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha yesterday. He said that the government has recently approved the proposal for the opening of 85 new KVs under the civil or defence sector across the country and the expansion of one
existing KV Shivamogga in Karnataka.
The minister also informed that the government has sanctioned 28 NVs in the newly created districts. He further said the establishment of these 85 new KVs and the expansion of one existing KV will benefit over 82 thousand students, while over 15 thousand students will benefit from these 28 new NVs across the country.
