New Delhi: The government has raised the compensation to the kin of victims of Hit and Run Motor accidents to 2 lakh rupees in case of death which is an eight fold increase from the current cap of 25 thousand rupees. 

In case of grievous injuries, the compensation to a person has been increased from 12 thousand 500 rupees to 50 thousand rupees. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification saying that that the scheme will be called the 'Compensation to Victims of Hit and Run



Motor Accidents Scheme', 2022 and it will come into force 1st of April, 2022. The scheme will supersede the Solatium Scheme, 1989.

The Ministry said that the process of application for compensation and the release of payment to victims has also been made time bound.

The government will set up a Motor Vehicles Accident Fund, which will be used for providing compensation in case of hit and run accidents and treatment for accident victims.
