Government will appoint Nyaya Mitras across the country to expedite the cases pending for last 10 years in lower courts.Addressing a function at Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court to inaugurate the Tele Law Service through Common Service Centers yesterday, Union Law and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad announced that retired judges will be appointed as Nyaya Mitras to expedite over seven lakh fifty thousand cases pending across the country. 

He said, Government is committed to providing justice to poor people in fast, smooth and affordable manner.Nayaya Mitra scheme would be functionalised through retired judges who will be designated as the Nyaya Mitras. 

Their responisibilities will include offering



assistance to litigants who are suffering due to delay in trial. Union Law and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the number of Common Service centers has been increased to two lakh fifty thousand across the country and they are providing 300 kinds of services to the common people.

He appealed Para Legal Volunteers, PLVs, working at these centers to make themselves dependable for poor people. 

Addressing the function, Supreme Court judge and Chairman of National Legal Service Authority Justice Deepak Misra announced that number of Para Legal Volunteers will be increased from 500 to 15,000 in Uttar Pradesh. He called upon the PLVs to become friendlier to litigants and serve them.
