New Delhi: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the production of indigenous biofuels will play a pivotal role in achieving the targets of net zero and import reduction. Mr Puri said this while addressing a two-day Global Conference on Compressed Biogas in New Delhi yesterday. He said, the Government has notified the National Policy on Biofuels, 2018 to increase the usage of biofuels in the



energy and transportation sectors of the country. 

Mr Puri said, the ethanol blending in petrol has increased from 1.53 per cent in 2013-14 to over ten per cent in July, 2022. The Minister said, the Government has set a target to increase the share of gas in the energy mix up to 15 per cent in 2030 to make India a Gas based economy.
