Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar today said that the government will achieve the target of constructing one crore houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin by 31st of March next year. 

Addressing media in New Delhi on the annual achievements of Rural Development Ministry, Mr Tomar said, so far over 44 lakh houses have been constructed since the launch of the scheme in 2016. He said, construction of the rest of houses is under progress. 

The Minister said, till March this year, over 1.52 lakh habitations have been connected with roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, which constitutes



85 per cent of the total habitations. Mr Tomar said, during the period of 2013-14, the pace of road construction in a day was just 75 kilometer and in 2017-18 , it reached 134 kilometer per day.

Mr Tomar said, 21 thousand villages have been identified which will be covered under seven schemes like Ujjwala, Ujala and Soubhagya under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan. The programme will start on14th April and continue till 5th of May.

Secretaries of Ministries including Rural Development, Power, Petroleum and Narural Gas gave presentation on Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.
