Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said India has withstood successfully during period of financial crisis in the world. Addressing the India Investment Summit 2016 in New Delhi, Mr Jaitley said, India continues to be one was of the fastest growing economies in the world.
He said, in the last 19 odd months government has opened India' s economy for investment. The minister said, government want better infrastructure, better private ,banking sector and to reach global standards. He said, that
India needs large investment in infrastructure sector. Mr Jaitley said, his ministry is working towards rationalisation of taxes.
Finance Minister also expressed hope that the opposition parties will see reason and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is held up in Rajya Sabha, will become a reality soon. GST, which will subsume all indirect taxes such as excise duty, service tax and sales tax into one uniform rate, is stalled in the Rajya Sabha as the Congress is pressing for some changes.
